This is the picture that started it all for me. The ‘layer cake’ of the economy by Hazel Henderson. I had it pinned on the wall by my desk for years because I found it the best depiction of the beginnings of a new economic story. And when I first saw the planetary boundaries diagram, I wanted to draw it as the bottom layer of the cake, all squashed and splayed out by the weight of the human economy on top of it. So big thanks to Hazel a) for drawing such a fab picture b) setting the precedent of using junk food as a metaphor. At least I am not alone…!
